Festival Description

Moscow Shorts ISFF is an international short film competition, with In-Person Screenings in Moscow and other cities from Russia. Moscow Shorts is the first short film festival in Russia that held monthly screenings in a cinema theatre. Starting with September 2021, we organize the screenings not only in the capital, but in other cities as well. First on the list are Saint Petersburg, Kaluga, Kazan, Tyumen, Krasnodar, Kirov and Khabarovsk.

Here are the stages of Moscow Shorts selections, awards, and screenings process:
– We have 6 categories where the filmmakers can submit their films: Narrative (Fiction, Drama, Comedy, Adventure, Action, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Mystery, Romance, No Budget, Mobile, Mini Short, and so on), Student (any genre), Documentary, Experimental, Animation (including Stop-Motion and Time-lapse) and Music Video (including Dance, Musical or Fashion Films).
– Every month we watch privately the submitted short films and choose the Official Selections.
– All selected films enter the competition for the monthly awards.
– In maximum one week after the Official Selection list is published, we announce the Monthly Winners (Best Short Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Narrative, Best Student, Best Documentary, Best Experimental, Best Animation, Best Music Video).
– The selected films which do not get an award, will not be screened.
– After we notify the winners, we make a short list of films which are going to be screened during the upcoming events. The duration of the screening cannot exceed 100 minutes, so in some cases we don’t screen all winners.
– There is a 3-4 months delay between the awards and the screening – for example in June we screen the winners from February.
– the main location of our events is Kosmos Cinema Theatre in Moscow (600 seats) but starting with September 2021 we added more venues and new cities to our portfolio. You can find the full list here: https://moscowshorts.com/en/venues/
– All monthly winners enter the competition for the Annual Awards.
– A full season of Moscow Shorts Annual Competition starts in March and finishes in February next year.
– The Moscow Shorts Annual Event take place usually at the end of July.
– The Moscow Shorts Annual Event consists in one week of screenings, the annual awards ceremony, lectures, meetings, workshops, and other activities.
